The fact that this is right scares me
You are elegant, withdrawn, and brilliant.
Your mind is a weapon, able to solve any puzzle.
You are also great at poking holes in arguments and common beliefs.
For you, comfort and calm are very important.
You tend to thrive on your own and shrug off most affection.
You prefer to protect your emotions and stay strong.

You'd think it'd be more?

You're totally, completely normal. And that's pretty darn weird!

Munchkin alert!
Pop-Star Sean is flying in today. Yeap, and I get to play the role of driver. There are trips to the beach, and naps, planned over the next few days. I'm even taking some half days off from work to enjoy his company. I'll try and do some future posting to keep you all occupied, but I'm not sure how many I'll be able to load up.

Mini Putt a-buy-bye
There is an article in today's Barnstable Patriot about the future use of the former StoryLand Mini-golf. I have a number of pics from our round or two played on the course. I've copied part of the article and attached it to the photo gallery so that anyone that stumbles upon it will know what a great course it was and what happened to it.
Quite sad though. I'd rather have mini-golf then another building. I'd even be willing to say that mini-golf should be classified as "open space". I mean, they have a full size course, why not the mini's?

Wasting away again in Mashpee
It's Friday. It's "No KBing" day. I'm feeling pretty sad. While that feeling will be with me all day long, I have so much other crap to get done today.
I'm also taking "No KBing Day" lunch suggestions. It's the day I eat anything I want for lunch. Have to spoil myself sometime.
And all you people tampering with my scale. Please, just stop. No. Really. Stop! The numbers are becoming a shadow of their former L.E.D. selves (yes, my scale is digital). I know you want to cheer me after a month long disappointing run, but dropping three in one week is causing early morning heart palpitations, never mind wondering if my eyes are deceiving me.
As to where, if any place, I can find were those three were lost from, I'd have to guess my boobs. Damn, the one thing you want to stay is the first thing to pack it's bags and go.
Thanks.

Well, poop to you too!
There is a new sign in the neighborhood. Prescious little 3 by 5 note cards, handwritten, and taped to some trees. The writer asks for 'strangers' to pick up doggie 'presents' left in the yard. I totally get it. I'd hate my yard to be the dog sewer of the neighborhood. I take Diez out to the power lines for his present dumping. It's not likely NStar will complain.
I'd suggest picking up some of these signs for posting. I think it has a more international appeal. If only the dogs understood.....

Technically in line
Oh my, I was all out of wack. Thanks Drew for pointing out the errors in my template. I'm still not sure the problem, but I suspect a bad entry (from one of those funny quizzes no less) was the culprit in breaking the template.
I don't always agree with how those quiz results are displayed and I'm prone to editing the HTML they supply. Which means I did a crappy job at it, breaking July.
It was the geek quiz, in case you were wondering. There was a giant graphic I striped out as well as the table layout that made the whole thing supersized.
So learn your lesson from me, buckaroos, watch those close table codes when you deleted the open table code.
I'm all spiffied up now.
Hit the showers.
Yes coach!

no rabbit here!
Alright, fess up now. You know you've been monkeying with my scale! How do I know this? There is NO way that I lost another pound.
You guys, such kidders. Thanks for trying to make me feel better, but screwing with my scale isn't the way to do it.
Since I ran out of romaine lettuce and finished off the bottle of salad dressing, I switched to Lipton Rice Side with some chicken added. It cooks pretty easy by itself, so all I have to do is set the timer and turn the temp down after a quick stir. I had so much extra time this morning, it was quite nice.
It may not seem like a lot for one meal, but once you add in the chicken (I use Perdue Short Cuts, which I keep in the freezer) it's pretty decent. If you're looking for a 'light' meal, this really hits the spot.
Open letter to Glad & Ziploc:
I really love all the little semi-disposable containers you produce. I have many sizes in my cupboard and can usually find just the right size for the food I need to store.
Now to my complaint: The first generation containers, while being the same capacity, do not have interchangeable tops with the second generation containers. The reverse is also true. I have difficulty distinguishing between the two generations, often ending with a top that doesn't seal well enough to keep liquids from spilling.
I'd also like to complain that both of you use the same color blue for your container tops. I'm sure many hours (months? days? years?) went into researching just the right shade of blue, but really, couldn't ONE of you be different? A Glad top has no chance of fitting on a Ziploc container, but I can't tell you how many times I've tried to do just that.
Please take my criticism, as well as praise, to heart and make improvements in your products.
Thank you.

To school, or not to school. That is the question.
I have just a few more days to pay my tuition for my lone fall class. Unfortunately the class is at night. Is three hours long, and completely interfere with KBing. I'm torn as to if I should suck it up and take the class, or bail out for the semester. If it were on a Friday night, which wouldn't interfere with KBing, that would be fine. I'm just trying to decide which will serve me better in the future: KBing class or AutoCad I?

Today is brought to you by the number 6
My latest Old Navy purchase arrived in the mail today. Six shirts:2 shades of green, 3 shades of red, and one very bright blue. This means that I can go two weeks without washing shirts, but still only one for capris and workout gear.

Not a "college" concept
I used the saying "work smarter, not harder" today. I received a snappy reply from the other person saying "I went to college too". I hate to break it to you, and the world in general:
This is not a college concept!I had this pounded into my head while in the Navy. That, and the word "Proactive", which I was trying to be when I made the request attached to the above saying.
Never, in all three years I was in 4C's, did I hear this saying. College doesn't want you to work smarter, they just want you to do something. Like study, or write papers.
And just because I'm a recent grad, I'm not doing things to show you up. I'm just doing my job. Quickly, efficiently, drama free, and to the best of my ability.
If you can't handle MY heat, stay away from me!

Big Little News!
I finally lost a pound. Holy crap! About frickn time! A little over a month to do it. At this rate, it will take... (hold on, must use calculator...) 5 years and 8 months to get down below the governments magic number for obesity. Of course I'd still be out of weight standards for the military. Thank goodness that's over.

Quickies
Punch'n at cha like nobody's business!
- Sunday morning I dragged James out to the canal for a bike ride. I suck at bike rides. Took an hour to ride 5 miles. Wow, I'm super fast.
- I watched a show called "How to Boil Water" on the food network. Some whacked out girl was the co-host. I learned to hard boil eggs and pan sear chicken.
- My 30 minute commute turned into a 55 minutes snooze. Damn fair. Damn tourists. Damn mid cape (not the highway, just the middle of the cape) rush hour.
- I tried to hard boil a few eggs for dinner tonight. Mmmm, protein. The yokes weren't cooked all the way. Bonus for Diez.
- I didn't want to go to KBing tonight.
- I went to KBing tonight
- I felt pretty good during class. Wore myself out.
- Ricky commended me for keeping up, going faster, picking up the pace.
- I was ready to collaspe
- Diez isn't getting a walk tonight.
- I smell. P.U.
- I'm going to shower
- Diez is chowing on his second bowl of food
- I want you all to have a good night under the nearly full moon. (it was 5 days ago)

I'm not a rabbit!
I cannot live on salads. I actually don't like them. But every work lunch, with the exceptions previously noted here in the blog, I have had a salad during the last month or so.
And now I'm tired of it.
Well, I've been tired of it from the start, but I'm over the edge now. When I watched Celebrity Fit Club this past weekend and heard Tocarra scream
but I'm still hungry!I could feel her (hunger) pain. It takes a good amount of food to fill me up, and depending on the type of food, that may never happen. A salad alone will not fill me up. I need something of substance.
Something with carbs!
I also wish I had the time to cook. I don't. If it isn't super fast, in a box, or already made, I'm skunked. And don't tell me to eat Lean Cuisine or such things. I think cardboard tastes better then that crap.
I guess this solves the no-go weightloss thingy.

Flippin' Sweet
Let me start with my photo journey. I have Gallery 2, beta 4 installed. This beta is nicknamed 'flippin sweet'. All the betas had awesome names, I went back and checked. I also like that even with the nicknames, the betas are being numbered. They work well together. Other software companies would do well to move along those lines.
I added two little groups of pictures. One group was some random pictures from some canal walks. Even have a pic of a fresh fish.
The other little album is of hydrangeas. They are beautiful and blue. They'll also die any day now, so I made sure to capture the moment.
One feature I'm really loving in this new software is the random picture. Every time I flip a page in the gallery, the random picture changes. I'm seeing pictures I had totally forgotten about, and a few I wish I could. Very entertaining.
Now as to why I don't have Diez bath pictures... it's a sore point so bare with me.
PetStupid had given me an appointment time of 1:30pm. I showed up with my best bud and they guy was like
"you can pick him up at 4:30"Excuse me? I have a 1:30 appointment. Apparently, this means nothing. So they take Diez in back and try to stick him in a medium size kennel. Anyone that knows him also knows this wasn't going to happen. The guy got all flustered when he couldn't move my smart dog into an undersized kennel. He came out and told me he was having problems. He then made a point to say Diez wasn't biting. Of course he wasn't! He's a mommas boy. The female groomer was left holding Diez on the other side of the glass window while the head groomer and the young guy who did the baths rearranged some of the other dogs to give Diez a big kennel. Diez was very confused seeing me on the other side of the glass. He sat, looked at me, whined a little, then barked.
They say a parent can pick their own child out of a crowd all calling 'mom', well I know when I hear my big baby Diez barking for me, and at that moment, on the other side of the glass, I wanted to cry. The three groomer eventually got him in the kennel and I set off to waste three hours.
I couldn't take it. A trip to the Tree, RI Job Lot and Staples just couldn't make me happy. I returned to PetStupid at 3:30p. He had ten minutes left according to the female groomer. I wondered around the store, then I heard it. The bark that says
don't leave me alone!and I was rushing to the grooming counter to save him.
I'll never take him back there for grooming. I want my appointment to mean that's the time it will be done. I want to sit nearby, reassure him, and watch that no harm comes to him. I don't want to be dismissed like some delinquent, uncaring, human.
My guilt at putting him through such trauma led me to treat him to ice cream. Isn't that what all good dogs get? He had a small bowl of vanilla soft serve, and I let him finish my sugar cone. While probably not as rewarding as a trip to the drive thru, it was a nice bonding experience.
I fully anticipate he'll need another bath in just a few days. I'll either find a better place to get it done or do it myself.

I should be out in the sun....
I've started playing with Gallery 2 beta 4. Current live release is version 1.something. I waited to jump on the beta bandwagon because a) I already have a beta fish and b) the software writers were cautioning against it. With the release of beta 4 they are encouraging more people to take a look, poke around, spin the wheels... test drive sorta speak. I imported all of my pictures from my 1x install into the b4 test (not Jesse's or Milen's). You can check it out here. Milen and Jesse will still use the old 1x install and all the old pics will have to stay since the new gallery doesn't allow embedding the pictures into the blog. It's a security thing, which I get. I think.
Anyways, take a gander when you have a chance. I'll be letting you know later today/tonight when I add new pictures. There is a little trip to the doggie spa today...

...has gas!
He's furry, has four feet, was chasing racoons at 5:30am, spent a few minutes puking up grass, and just let a big stinky one rip.
But today, he gets a bath.

Geek thing of the day, what will it be? Your host may hold the key....
Here is my geeky thing of the day:
I installed SiteBar on my server. It uses MySQL. I don't know SQL, never met him, wouldn't know him if he slept next to me in bed. But he's there on the server, and now, he has a job!
Then I installed Sidebar extension into my FireFox. I then logged into the Sitebar database on my server.
Now this is all really neato. I now have my bookmarks being served. I can install the extension into my FireFox at work, and voila!, the same bookmarks. I can install the extension on my other pc's and voila! bookmarks. I could install the extension on my mom's computer and voila! bookmarks.
Now this seems pretty basic, but let me expand. I can add users to my bookmark database. So I can log in, see my personal bookmarks and the public bookmarks. I could have my mom log in and she would see her personal bookmarks and the same public bookmarks.
If my company was more websavy (not even a shred), we could have a company section (ie public) of bookmarks, and then each user could have their own personal bookmarks. This would be great since we all need to be able to look at websites for various product vendors, but each of us is maintaining our own bookmarks.
In a big corporation, and even with telecommuters (is that's what they are still called?), projects could be bookmarked so each group member would be looking at the same research, not repeating past finds.
And back to basics: I could load up bookmarks I want to share with you all in the public section, then put a link to my sidebar here in the blog. You could see what blogs I like to read, what news I watch, and what games I enjoy.
I feel super geeky. Of course, I'm not, but hey, I don't care what you think anyway.
(If you figure out what Sunday morning community access show the title of this entry is inspired by, you win!)

KBing free entry!
Phone manners: When you call and get voicemail, then call back 10 minutes later and get voicemail again, be sure to hang up the phone before you SCREAM
"THIS IS CRAZY! HOW CAN NO ONE BE THERE!!"BTW: it's call a lunch break.
Speaking of lunch break: I had my first (and probably my last) 'business' lunch. My company's Stiples rep took me out and we went down the street to sit by the harbor and watch the boats pass. Really nice.
This street: is melting! When you see a snow sanding truck in the middle of summer tooling around Hyannis, do wave. They are coming to once again treat our street. It's so incredibly sticky with the tar oozing everywhere. They sand the road several times a day, but still, the sticky tar oozes up again.
At Home: Diez has fleas. This has earned him a trip to the doggie spa. A good, professional, bath should do him some good. So 1:30pm Saturday we'll be at PetStupid for some suds. If anyone wants to meet us before or after for hot dogs and/or ice cream, let me know.
Chinese food: I'm skipping pizza tonight. Two weeks in a row! Instead I'm subbing mall chinese food for lunch today. MMMM... cheap, sodium filled, imitation chinese food... oh save me from the bourbon chicken!
Tax free shopping: August 13, maybe even the 14th! I'll have to get a little list together of items I've been wanting, but haven't had the heart to splurge on. Things like an LCD monitor, a cool cell phone with camera or maybe a mini-mac. Last year it was a new bicycle and I still enjoy it.
12 can fridge packs: Whoever was in the test market focus group should be taken out and shot. These paks never open right, no matter how many finger nails I break or which flavor poison I pick.
Pooping on the rivals: While refueling at Cumbies, I used the window washer to clean all the bird crap off my windows. I don't work for Cumbies.
I lied!: Ricky is teaching KBing all next week. Yeah, form triumphs over speed!

I've tried really hard to save you money
Without getting too into specifics, I just want to say, for the record, I tried to save you all some money.
I tried to keep yet another person from cheating the system, robbing you and me of precious tax dollars.
I tried to get this person to just suck up the fact that sometimes you have to pay money to get something.
I tried to explain that NO ONE should be allowed to get free tax-payer funded services when they have the ability to pay for them.
I'm frustrated beyond belief that some people can manipulate the system, use their children for personal gain, and all at a cost to you and me.
The system is definitely broken with no fix in sight.

Is it wrong of me to feel this way?
Last night it was pyramids. Let me tell you what these are.
- 2 front lunges (1 right + 1 left = 1 lunge)
- down on the floor
- 2 full body crunches
- on your belly
- 2 spiderman pushups
- on your feet
- jumping jacks until everyone is up
OK, it looks easy, right? Well I said it was a pyramid. Do the same moves, except do 4. Then, do a set of six. Oh, keep going with a set of 8. And up to a set of 10.
But WAIT!
Now do this pyramid:
- 10 side lunges (1 right + 1 left = 1 lunge)
- down on the floor
- 10 right side crunches
- 10 left side crunches
- on your tummy
- 10 diamond pushups
- on your feet
- jumping jacks until everyone is up
This set winds down from 10, to 8, 6, 4, then a last set of 2. Are you sore yet? How about dizzy? Personally, I get sick with all this up, down and over stuff. I do the lunges and march in place waiting for everyone else. The very first class I took they did these and I ended up nearly passed out.
Tonight I wasn't enthused to have yet another speed round (Teri teaches fast). Of course we had a new student. A 90 lb. ballerina. She pranced around on her toes as we sorta stretched out before class started. She moved on to splits, keeping her nose forever high in the air. Do I sound like a KBing snob? Oh, it gets so much better!
We move on to the bag session. I had some pusher on the other side of my bag, but ballerina girl had no one to share with. We all hit the bags, working through the sets and having Teri tell us not to step back on the kicks (you try not to, it's pretty hard). About four sets in ballerina girl stops. Cold. Teri prompted her out of the room. She came back, but had difficulty getting back into the bags.
Further in the class we worked on abs and doing these strange side pushups I have yet to figure out. I can do them with my left arm, but not my right. Well ballerina girl was a total loss.
I felt pretty smug by the end of class. I may not be the most coordinated, or the fastest, heck I can't even kick high, but I do my best without looking like a looser. Ballerina girl looked around at the end of the class in disgust. I imagine something like "well I'm sure they can't do a pirouette...". Yeah, I can't, but I do participate in KBing 5 to 6 hours a week. And while you may only weigh 90 lbs. soaking wet, I won't get blown away in a hurricane. PHHHTTTTT!!!!!

Do you ever wonder?
I was going to load some MP3's onto my iRiver this morning. I ripped the new Lifehouse CD and was going to put the older Lifehouse CD on the iriver also. But the MP3's weren't there. Which got me wondering... What was I doing four years ago, and for the last four years in general, that stopped me from ripping the old Lifehouse CD into MP3's to begin with?
With only five minutes to get out the door for work, that question will have to wait for another day.

You were right...
... which means I was wrong!
I was so torn about skipping KBing last night. Should I go, should I go to bed, should I vegetate for an evening. The choices were endless. Dad, on the other hand, had a full load of guilt to lay on me.
"If you don't go today, then you won't go another day. Then you'll only go every other day, then you won't go at all."Lovely.
So I went. When I arrived there were only two other students in attendance. A few more last minute and late arrivals brought the class up to seven students. Sounds small but it's actually the right amount for the room. Since it was an odd number, Teri the instructor became the eighth person for bag work. She intimidates me even more then the other woman that intimidates me. And while Ricky has been telling me to exaggerate my punches, Teri tells me to punch from the waist. It doesn't seem the same and both are fairly awkward movements for me.
With the small student number we were able to use the giant exercise balls for the last portion of class. This meant all abs, with is great, but especially lower abs, which wasn't so great since I'm PMS cramping.
A tasty ibuprofen cocktail was my bedtime treat last night. I don't think I could have slept without it.

Hello and welcome!
Today is Tuesday. Day three of Mother Nature leaving the fog machine on. I do hope you all enjoy being covered in slime as you go about your day. I don't think any amount of deoderant, showering, body powder, or power fans can stop body slime today.
Now, if you happen to be traveling... I hear the Mohave desert is pretty nice this time of year.

But am I a geek?
You answered 74% of the questions as a geek truly would. You don't seem to sway in either direction, however you still seem to have some latent geek attributes within you. Maybe you're interested in computers but not a gamer? Maybe you've got geek hobbies but none of the awkward social tendencies. You may be slightly geekier than you thought and in denial!
The simple geek usually has various quirks that friends may make fun of, but in general can be considered a fairly normal person. Your geek attributes make you less likely to conform to society. The popular kids don't hate you but the geeks don't either, so it's a respectable demographic.
In a nutshell, you answered enough questions with geek tendencies and enough questions without geek tendencies that it's difficult to pinpoint your exact alignment.
My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:You scored higher than 50% on geekness

Not as long as you think!
Yeah, I read Harry pretty fast, but I think I'm justified!!
First off, while the book is some 600+ pages, it could have been much shorter. Each line in each paragraph is spaced out. There are large margins on all four sides of the page, and the type is slightly larger then most books.
If the Harry books were printed in the same type layout as a normal novel, the book would have been less pages, by about 150+. So how long would it take to read a 475 page book? Oh, a day.
And I took a day and a half.
And to let you know, I was kind of pissed to find out the internet rumors about who gets killed were true. I feel cheated and robbed!

Harry is no Peter
I finished Harry Potter. Let's just say he's no Peter Parker.
Diez was most glad I finished. It meant we could finally go for a walk.
Other then that, the only thing happening is Jenn added some new pictures of Sean to her website. Cute kid. I can't really call him a baby any more. He turns two (!!) in September. Wow, time flies!

Hells Bells
I've been tasked with hunting, finding and procuring (I love that word) a brass ship bell. Deep sound, not tinny, and within my meager "I don't get paid for holidays the office is closed" allowance.
Oh Yeah!
And... I'm going to the Depot. The good one. Not the imitating one in that pseudo-city I work in. Yeah, I'm going OVER the bridge. As in, leaving the cape. Wow, it's like when you were in school and you got to take a field trip to the local pizza joint (yes, that was a field trip of mine).
And, hopefully, if my previously mentioned itty-bitty allowance has any fundage left... I'm bookstore bound. It's Harry Potter time, in case you've been living under a cement pad.

Back to the pain
Last Saturday I did took a double dose of KBing. Throughout this week I've been feeling no pain. No stiff muscles, no tweaked knees, nothing. I guess that this lack of pain contributed to my general state of discouragement.
After reviewing technique Wednesday night, last night was a total wipe out. Meaning I was wiped out. Form is everything, looking at the correct wall helps too. Don't ask. Anyway, I was beat down after the first part, a kink in the back and face redder then a tomato. A ripe one, that is.
Bag work, where technique comes into play, proved difficult. Teaming up with three people on a bag is insane. I couldn't get the rhythm down and the other two people were pros. As in, one was actually Teri. But I hung in there until I rotated to a bag partner that didn't kick and I didn't know and I hadn't a clue what was going on. I totally screwed up that pattern.
My last bag partner was someone I had seen in class, but didn't really know. She was a pusher, a technique that I found out Wednesday gives you no bang for your gold dollar coinage. Putting your fist on the bag and pushing it will get you nowhere except across the room. Quickly tagging the bag, moving as much of your body as possibly, that's the bang. I had to keep backing up as this last dummy partner didn't get the tagging versus pushing, and Ricky didn't correct her.
She must be newer then me.
All in all a very good class. Today I feel my tummy muscles, as well as my legs. Which means they are all there but with questionable functionality. And since it is Friday, with pizza cancelled and Smack & Sneeze actually consumed Thursday night, suddenly dinner plans are wide open.
Looking for suggestions! Please!!!

Use the same dictionary lately?
I've seen the same uncommonly used word twice today:
imbroglio
1.
A. A difficult or intricate situation; an entanglement.
B. A confused or complicated disagreement.
2. A confused heap; a tangle.
There are lots of useful, more easy to pronounce words in the definition alone. While I'm all about expanding my vocabulary, what I'm not all about is a tongue twister of a word that stops me reading in my tracks.
If I can't pronounce a word to myself, in my mind, how the heck can I keep reading the article, story or headline? Keep my reading dumbed down, thank you. While I may be a college grad, it doesn't mean I want to read big words in every day life.
Again, get over yourselves.

Seems like I'm all about canceling things...
Friday night pizza has been canceled for this week. Instead we are substituting Smack & Sneeze. Another fine, fine, comfort food brought to us by those Krafty blue box people.
If you'd like reservations to my house, and possibly share a bowl with my fuzzy guy, just comment or email me.

End of summer?
It's the end of summer, according to Old Navy, and they are having a summer clearance sale to prove it. Do you think anyone at O.N. checked the calendar? I mean, really, seriously, I only put on shorts two weeks ago, and even that's a hit or miss item. Heck, last Friday I had the heat on in my car! Summer? Over? I think not! I just think O.N. is too lazy to keep good stuff in stock longer then a month. It takes me about three to break down and buy anything. They would sell more (to me anyway) if they carried the good stuff, ie classic standards, year round. I can always layer a nice short sleeve shirt.... even in a blizzard.

Tough day
I wasn't peppy today. Not even by half. And most of this afternoon I spent telling myself that attending KBing tonight wasn't in the cards.
After some serious road rage trying to depart Hyannis (fucking j-walkers and lost NYers), and even more steering wheel slamming in Centerville, I seriously doubted if I was in the right state of mind to much of anything.
I heated up dinner and changed for class. Even if I didn't go, I'd dress like I did. I ate my dinner and then decided I should just go. I mean, really, I was already dressed for it.
But my heart wasn't in it, and it showed. I had no pep during class and I had no motivation to push myself. See, I've been going to KBing for a solid three weeks and it doesn't show. I haven't lost a single ounce or inch. I'm the same as I ever was. I've been feeling discouraged and seriously want to demand the CDC, NIH, and any other alphabet soup group give me my money, and time, back.
After class Ricky was all gun-ho and then I told him about my lack of loosing. He spent the next half hour going over how we were going to change my form (more movement) and keep on me in class. He's going to be calling out my name a lot, and making sure I don't slack. If I don't feel wasted energy wise during class, then I'm not moving enough.
Of course he asked me my age, and when I said 32 his jaw dropped to the floor. He had me pegged at 27 at most, which proves he's a big hearted flatterer.
He also told Teri that my form should be watched. I prefer Ricky's classes to Teri's (she's a little too fast and intense for me), but will keep going every day. I've been told not to, but what would I do if I didn't go?
That's right. Nothing.

Dynamic duo save 6 from burning boat off Cape By Laura Crimaldi Wednesday, July 13, 2005A fire commissioner and retired dentist rescued six people, including a 3-year-old girl, from a 48-foot cabin cruiser that burst into flames more than three miles off the coast of Hyannisport yesterday afternoon.
Dick Gallagher, 54, and Dr. Roger Currie, 81, were returning from breakfast in Edgartown on Currie's Wave Rider boat when they spotted smoke engulfing the troubled Priscilla.
``We were the only boat around. Dick, who was very, very able (as the boat's operator), said, `We got to get them off,' said Currie. ``It was six people on the bow with no life jackets, including one who was the (three-year-old) girl. We knew that the boat would soon explode.''
With winds blowing at 15 to 25 knots and waves swelling 6 to 7 feet, Gallagher pulled the Wave Rider aside the doomed Priscilla and had the passengers toss the toddler to Currie.
Gallagher then steered around the boat about 15 times so the passengers could jump ship to safety one at the time. Daniel Adams, the boat's captain, was the last to be rescued just as the boat went up in flames.
``He was just overwhelmed. I coaxed him and at this point the boat is totally engulfed in flames. I said, `Don't be worried,' and he jumped,'' said Gallagher.
Adams, his wife, Priscilla, young daughter and three guests were brought back into Hyannisport Pier where they were examined by firefighters. None of them were injured in the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, fire officials said.

Here's what Boston.com reported:
Six people rescued from burning boatJuly 12, 2005
HYANNIS, Mass. --Six people, including a 3-year-old child, were rescued from a boat that caught fire off Cape Cod on Tuesday afternoon, the Coast Guard said. Flames broke out on the 48-foot Marblehead-based Priscilla shortly after noon about three miles south of Centerville Harbor, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Lisa Hennings. Hennings said all six passengers were safely taken aboard another vessel, the Wave Rider, passing through the area. There were no injuries reported.
The Priscilla was a total loss, she said. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined
The 'huh?' part:
The AP story was linked on a site that shall not be named here, from of all places, tuscaloosanews.com. Huh? Are you so much of a block head you couldn't simply link to Boston.com? Get over yourself already!

Via a bazillion websites... scancapecod.us is the most addictive listening on the net.
Boat on fire! People in water! Holy crap!
Reminds me that there are people still out playing tourist (badly?), even mid-week.
I recommend the Winamp feed to know what you are listening to. Winamp is free, so don't cheap out.

Three. Three! Three days in one
Friday: Do you ever have a day when all the goofy things happen? It was an outright retarded day, and I don't mean that in an ADA kind of way. It just seemed like the stupidest things happened.
After work I finally made it to the Reebok outlet in Yarmouth. It has better items then the clearance outlet on Main St. I picked out three sporty bras (uniboob style), three shirts, and a pair of kicks. For $133 I have enough to make it through half a week of KBing.
And of course I had my Friday night pizza. Mmmm, good.
Saturday: Feeling only slightly peppy, I went to 7am KBing. It wasn't until almost the end of class that I finally felt stretched out, warmed up, and awake. With my energy level high, I stuck around for the second class. Wow, two whole hours of KBing and I felt the best I have in three weeks!
After class it was home for a much needed shower, a stroll with Diez, early lunch, then a nap. A never ending "I've fallen asleep and I can't wake up" kind of nap. Yikes! For afternoon fun I loaded Diez into the car and took a scenic route to Jesse's pad. She wasn't home. Since I didn't want to disappoint my furry passenger, we headed to Falmouth Heights for some people watching. Two weddings and some kite flying later, we cruised through McD's drive through. Diez had a burger and fries while I opted for the burger and sundae. Another scenic drive by the beach on the way home and my furry passenger was happy to be home. He had to pee.
This night brought the return of Southern Snowbird Watch Commander (SSWC). He's given up keeping those pesky grey hair drivers from migrating and is now here to shoo them all back. Only time will tell how successful he is.
Sunday: Bright and early for our weekly walk but Diez is stressed about SSWC's return and won't eat. So he didn't get to go for the walk. I took SSWC instead and he finished about a third of a mile ahead of me. Not bad considering I'm a foot shorter.
I then took him to the stupermarket so that he wouldn't eat all my food. He has to ask me if he can eat any of my food. If not, he could just eat me out of house and home. While navigating the produce/deli section, Ricky from KBing snuck up behind me "are you going to get in that deli line?" Ummm, nope. While I could really enjoy a nice pastrami sandwich, I also would rather save my money and just pick up some hot italian sausages on sale.
I have all the fixin's for salad this week, and even purchased some larger bowls for transporting to work. I'm not sure how much, if anything, I'll save this week, but I also won't be getting pieces of romaine lettuce that are all stalk. Yuck.
I'm off to the shower now. SSWC is moving his gear into the house today which will make napping for me a tough project.

I have a confession
That chugger bottle of water I bring to each kbing class is not really water. It's koolaid. It's the invisible watermelon kiwi flavor. I hate water. Having invisible koolaid is like cheating, except no one knows. Good thing there is no blood sugar test for kbing. I'd fail. Then I could write a book about all the other koolaid dope heads that also cheat, pumping themselves up on invisible watermelon kiwi koolaid.
I could be famous! Thanks koolaid man!

Up the short stairs
Terri announced at the beginning of KBing (pronounced 'Ka-Bing!) that the next week and a half would be all about the legs. She has a bike race on the 19th. Odd thing is, since she conducts the class, she gets the least amount of exercise out of it.
And tonights class was the largest I've seen to date. Fortunately she didn't try to have us do too many multi steps, as in moving around the room, sequences.
As for my thighs, they have requested no stairs. Too bad I live on the second floor.

Full up yummy
Did I ever tell you the Navy had me seeing a shrink? Ah, fun times.
Well this was because they thought I was depressed and suicidal. You try working the night shift, it ain't easy to be happy and upbeat all the time when you are in a state of permanent jet lag.
So this shrink thought I was depressed because of my weight. Well, considering I'm heavier now then back then, he was way off target. But part of his thing was to get me to eat less, like not clean the plate, don't be afraid to throw out food.
So in a trip to McD's turning the next week or so I made a conscience effort to toss out perfectly edible food. So how did I decide which items to toss? I figured I'd start small and choose the burnt or short french fries. No joke.
The next shrink visit comes up and he asks how much progress I'm making. I tell him I'm tossing out the burnt or short french fries as a way of not cleaning my plate.
He accused me of discrimination, and possible racism!
When it came time to schedule my next appointment I told them I'd have to call them back, something about a work schedule change. Needless to say, I never went back and not one burnt or short french fry ever complained about not being eaten.
So why am I telling you (or repeating) this story? I tossed out almost a full thing of fries today at lunch. Because I was full. No discrimination or racism involved. And again, no complaints (except maybe from Diez because I'm not bringing them home for him to eat).

Buy my DVD...
There is an article in Reuters about people selling DVD's of the Live 8 concert on EBay. Well EBay is pulling the listings. What I suggest these people do is sell 'used' DVD's that just happen to be ones used to record Live 8 for personal viewing. The ad can go like this:
One DVD, slightly used, no longer blank. May have some shows of interest. Since I don't label my DVD's well, there may be Live 8 footage, or last weeks football matchup. This wouldn't be a fake item, and should be completely acceptable.
As for the official Live 8 DVD, if it is as bad as what they released for the official Live Aid dvd, I'll keep my money.
Did anyone happen to capture the AOL streams?

Injured!
The back of my mouse hand is swollen and in pain. I have a cold pack on it now, making typing bareable, but at work I won't be so lucky. Here's to a day of minimal typing.
Not.

Feeling not so sunny
I had one goal for this weekend: buy new sneakers. I failed. Whop-de-do.
I did go to Olympia Sports in Falmouth for those new Nikes, the ones with the shock absorbers. Now I know why they come with shock absorbers... the price tag of $110! Yeah, shocked alright. Let me just put those back down. And none of the employees asked me if I needed help, even though you can't buy sneakers without them going to the back room for them.
On to Payless. While they had some nice Champion kicks, I didn't want all leather. Need something that will breath.
A stop at the Tree, cuz I was there, and I picked up some 'wallowing in failure' cookies, and a potato cooking accessory for my mom. Off to Wally world where I picked up more cookies (Oreos & grasshoppers), a DVD (Vin Diesel is the Pacifier), a CD (Lifehouse) and a box of cereal. While I'm not concerned that my PG movie selection is edited to Wally standards, I'm always leery to purchase music CD's in a store that sensors every product sold for wholesome family values.
It's bullshit if you ask me.
If I want to buy a rap album where bitches and hoes are cursed at, then so be it. It's my $15 or so bucks, why should some corporate grey hair guy be like oh no, we can't be hearing that word! Losers. The frigging things have the black explicit lyrics sticker on them, that should be enough to card kids buying them, like a pack of smokes.
And to think, in some parts of the country, there is no alternative to Wally's World of morals.
But I'm way off topic.
There are bottle rockets going off, and the country in general is celebrating in every back yard. Personally, I'm not feeling it. It could be my lack of new kicks, of my just plain no direction life, but I'm not feeling in the mood for fire works. I will be in bed on time tonight. I may be the only one.

That darn cat
A nice relaxing stroll around the neighborhood was nearly complete. Diezel and I were just steps from the gate when WHOOSH! he was off like a shot, and to save my hand I let go of the leash. Diez was in hot pursuit of Scar the Cat who had been lurking in the flowers.
Now they were racing across the yard, by the pond, through the trees to the farm stand parking area. They encountered a large white pickup truck and turned right to zip down the driveway, between the barn and shed, and into the raspberries. At least that's where I caught up with Diez. Scar on the other hand, had climbed up into the hayloft of the barn.
I eventually caught Diez by telling him I had the kitty. He tried to scoot by me when I stomped onto his leash.
He's not panting outside, trying to catch his breath. I think it's safe to say he won't miss me while I go shopping.

Potato salad days
It's not loaded down with mayo and eggs, both of which spoil easily.
2 pounds small red potatoes, scrubbed
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup minced shallots or red onion
1 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley1. Boil potatoes in salted water, just until tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Drain. Cool slightly; dice.
2. Whisk vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper in large bowl. Whisk in oil. Add shallots and warm potatoes; toss. Cool
3. Stir in celery and parsley. Makes 6 cups.
I cut the potatoes before I boil them.

Reboot and relax
Ahhh... the first early morning of a three day weekend. What? You thought I'd be sleeping in? You're whack, like crack.
I had 7am KBing! Since you can't go KBing on an empty stomach, I had to be up early enough to eat something, have a ten minute digestive process, then load into the car for the trip.
Class was awesome, of course. That kind of goes without saying. It was Paul's birthday, and Mary Ann's too. So during the cool down stretch we had to sing. And since we all sucked wind the first time, we had to sing again. Teri taught the 7am class and the focus was on the legs. Oh god, my quads. Rick was teaching the second (8am) class and he said he was going to do upper body. I wanted to stick around, and I seriously entertained the thought, but he cautioned me against it. I've been going faithfully everyday there is class, and he said I should rest my body the rest of the weekend. But I so need to stretch my hips out or something because I'll be damned if I can kick the dummy with anything close to the force needed.
After class it was home for a Diezel stroll around the neighborhood. It was frig'in humid as a steam shower and he was panting before reaching the half way point. I think he's done hiking until the fall.
After scooping poop, I did some weed whacking. I also tried to take pictures of bees, wasps and a garden snake that seems to enjoy the poop pile. Later today I'll pull the pics off of the camera and see if any of them are worth sharing.
And lastly, some sad news... my car roach died this morning. It had come out during the night and gotten it's wings stuck in the dew, pollen and pitch that is all over the car. So on it's back, with it's wings glued to the window and it's little legs flailing in the air, I said a prayer that went something like this:
Damn Fucking Bug! Serves you right for thinking MY car was any place to make a home!Ok, it probably wasn't that mean, but I really did have the heave-jeeveezs with a cockroach living in my car. It flew off the window when the car got up to speed. Theoretically, it could still be alive, just no longer in my car.
And to think, as I wrap up this entry, it's only 10am!

Sminni-golf change
Due to putt-ular demand, The First Annual Sminni-golf Blogger Invitational will be rescheduled to August. If you have preference as to when in August, speak up type up!
Also, looking for a logo we can put on some t-shirts. Yeah, we should look a little goofy while playing. What, you thought this was innocent fun?
