The Fair

Every year, in July, there is a big fair on the Cape called the Barnstable Fair. I went 2 years ago and it was awesome, but last year didn't have anyone to go with. This year, however, I had the best experience - I not only went to the fair but I did it with kids, I could feel the magic through them. To top it off we saw the demolition derby. There were 2 people from the radio, participating in the derby, a girl - Cat, and a guy - Elvzy; interestingly Elvzy won the derby and Cat finished third.

Steff and Cliff's kids were so adorable, that I can't even explain, unfortunately I only got one picture. All three of them wanted to hold my hand so I had to carry one of them on my shoulders.

But OH, MY GOD THE FOOD WE ATE:

Coincidences

I don’t know what is up with that, but it seems that every time I leave work early to do something, something gets canceled. First, when I was going to pick up Jose from the airport, his flight got canceled, and I had to wait 2 hours. Then, last Friday, Jessie, Kate, and I rushed to the movies to find out that the move we wanted to see is moved from 7:00 to 9:00. Finally today, I begged to take off early, so that I can go to the demolition derby at the annual Barnstable fair with Steff and Cliff. Halfway through, on the way to Steff and Cliff, and everyone from the Cape would relate to the nightmare of getting there, Cliff called me to tell me that they aren’t going. So I had to go back home without seeing the demolition of any cars. Ain’t that something?

A Poem

Undesired Purdah

The day went spent in solitude,
amongst others.
Despite the crowd he laid alone –
secluded in his world, and words,
in lines, of pages, in a book.
He peeked above the edge
to scan, with thirst, the throng
for that one, special –
not the smartest or the most beautiful
just for the one, so immovably awaited;
the one that he can call his own.

He left the beach as solitary as a cat
and walk the swarming street –
alone, with thirst.
Then stopped with coffee and a smoke,
To look around and skim the mob;
Innumerable faces –
closing up, then passing forward,
to dissipate from view in blur.

When driving home he thought –
"solitary life might work for cats
But not for dogs, we dogs, need people.
We like to be alone only in our sleep,
and it pains us to be lonely,
especially amongst others.
We like to move in couples,
packs or gangs, or flocks or
even clumps and clusters."

Back on Track

The last time I ran, was good 20 days ago – the date was Jun 29, 2005 – I couldn’t get back into it till July 19, 2005. I did have my excuses but the bottom line is I’m back on the running track and my legs are sore beyond words. I’m motivated to run, however, by the fact that I didn’t gain any fat, but if I slack around, I know it will come back around my waist like the high tide.

Simple Solutions

I finally broke-down, under the heat wave, and bought a “premium 20-inch box fan” – with a special wind ring system, for 30% more air velocity – and that made the world of difference, I’m no longer breathing like a gold fish or flopping in bed like one. Beccam was talking about the weather saying that “Mother Nature leaving the fog machine on,” for three days. The way I see it, all the Dementors have broke out of the Azkaban prison and are breeding in the air, that’s how we got the slimy fog and the mist, but to make us more miserable instead of the chill we get unbearable heat and humidity.

The Trash-pig Exposed, Again.

I come home, and what I’m too see – the trash-pig’s vulva is staring at a mirror, and simultaneously at me – then I turn to the chalkboard to see the hooligan’s note left there, hanging; I laughed and laughed without a comment.

Do It Yourself!

While in Boston, with Carl and George, we stoped by AVEDA store, where we spent an hour and 45 minutes – the guys were picking a sent for their house – and I got so bored that I picked through a magazine. My new friends, having “the best house,” talk quite a lot about real-estate, furniture, and art; by the same token I rent and my household belongings, that are worth something, can be summed up to a bed, the trunk and a frying pen. What can I say? I rely on eccentric approach to the art-decoration of my room – I, with a capricious eye, stroll through magazines and draw my art from there:

When my eye is couth,
By a worthy picture,
I simply tear it out, and frame it,
To adorn my wall.

The Best House

I'm ought to mention that despite my sickness, last Wesnesday, I went to Boston to see the black divas - Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, and Erycah Badu - in concert. I didn't know many of the songs they performed but needless to say it was an amazing show.

I was supposed to do a well over past due oil change on my car this day, but instead I reestablished the favorite "Thursday-lunch with Stephanie," well it was on a Wednesday but the tradition is what counts. It was a Grande return - we had an absolute blast. That is how I ended up with 2 free tickets for the concert. Steff couldn't go, and I talked to a friend of mine in Boston (or I at least thought him a friend), who I knew was going to the same concert, so we made arrangements to go together. This whole arrangement thing went to hell and put me through hell too. In the last minute, however, I was able to get in touch with Omar who, thank goodness, joined me for the event. I'm realizing that it sounds long and ambiguous, and to make the long story short, I'd say that the concert was great but on my way back from Boston I ended up in the blues. That actually ties in with the "I've been having a bad, bad day" entry…

The more important thing is the outcome of this whole mess. I realized that I'm not feeling very happy, and this upset me cuz I don't have much time to feel unwell - I only have month and a half before school hits - and I have to snap out of it ASAP! Miraculously, my newly acquainted friends Carl and George invited me to visit them, in Boston, for the weekend. I originally had planed to go to Ptown but took the invitation and definitely didn't regret it.

Carl had told me that he has the best house, but I didn't pay much attention thinking "yeah, yeah, whatever. They all say that," but I guess he was right. It is, of course, ridiculous to say that one's house is the best, but let me tell ya - their house is amazing! I have pictures to proof it:

This is just a barn :
We say in BG "Skromna ky6ta s dve lipi ot pred" - modest house with two trees in front.

I got there Saturday, and we had a really mellow time, we just talked, watched some TV (Kathy Griffin - strongly recommended), then had dinner and rested. I got up very relaxed on Sunday and red the Henry James' short stories book. George went to the gym - he is a gym instructor and runs a gym - and Carl and I got Star Bucks and he took me for a ride in the neighborhood; "Oh, mine!" I thought "What a country," the houses we saw. After we came back we chilled some more and I was able to read some more, which I really enjoyed. In the afternoon we drove to the city (their house is in Lynnfield, north of Boston, about 15-20min.), and pretty much wandered around and had lunch.
For dinner, with 6 other people, we went to the beautiful town of Newburyport and had dinner in a fancy Mexican restaurant. The food and the service were outstanding but the company of nice people out-shined it. I came home in a great mood and I'm all better now.

The title of the previous entry is a short song from “Buffy the Musical,” it is very “give-me-a-break” like. It’s Joss Whedon for you – if I’m not mistaking the woman singing is his wife. Click HERE to hear the song.

I've been having a bad, bad day, come on why don't you put this pad away...

I just had to face the choking and bitter realization that I’m completely alone in my sorrow after dark. I’ve been feeling very blue the last few days; being sick with a bad cold doesn’t help either. I just needed someone to pamper me while I’m feeling sad. When I think about it, all I want is to have someone come over my house and talk, maybe have a drink, watch some mindless TV… alas all the people I know and my friends are either asleep or far a way from Hyannis. Tonight is the perfect example of the misery of my fait:

 Joan is asleep cuz she probably went to bed late and she is working midnight to 8am and leaving here at 11pm.

 Kate is asleep cuz she has to be up at 3:00am to go work for UPS.

 Steff is in bed cuz she has to work in the radio in the morning. And she is also in Mashpee 15 miles away.

 Megy is in Chatham – too far.

 Beccam is sleeping cuz she gets at 5:00am.

 Dennis in Ptown.

 The people I know, off Cape, I’m not even mentioning.

I’m now going to bed as well, and hopefully I’ll get up in a much better mood and state of mind.

Baby I'm Back

I'm back from Vacation and I'm wiped out. I was supposed to come home on Wednesday but the owner of the guest house gave me 2 extra nights for free, which I couldn't turn down, so I extended my stay in Ptown till Friday.

I left work at 4pm last Friday to pick up Jose and Nicholas from T.F. Green airport in Providence at 6pm. Their flight got canceled and was rescheduled to arrive at 9:40pm. Scared by the locals I left early and ended up waiting at the airport for 3 hours - thank god for the good book I had brought with me. It took only ½ hour for Jose and Nick to have a blow out. I'm not going to comment on that and I'm only gonna say that Nick was sent back to NYC the day after.

We made it in Ptown around 1:30am on Friday - just in time for Spiritus - it was odd to be there without being in the clubs beforehand.

Unlike last year, when I didn't do any of the circuit parties, this year, due to circuit friends, I had tickets for all of them except one. It all started on Saturday (July 2, 2005) with the Pier dance, which was spun by Tony Moran (he IS the best DJ). It was incredible and fun. We all had a ball and I had to have a picture with "King Tony" for the blog! At this party I was also able to capture the most famous Mark-dance :) [click to see video]

The days kind of wrapped around those parties and we didn't really do anything else together, which I find sad and unsatisfying. Not to complain but out of the 4 parties I only enjoyed the Pier dance and the Sunset boat cruise. Those at least were awesome!

It was interesting that I went to the same karaoke night at the Wave bar as last year - this was one of my first entries form last year. For many reasons I liked it a lot better. Most of all I knew more of the songs. And of course my new friends from Boston, whom I had met at the boat cruise, helped the excitement.

My NYC friends left on Tuesday afternoon and at first was a relief but it suddenly turned into sadness because I felt all alone. I then realized that Omar is still in town and calmed down. The boat was great fun and I got to meet the "Carl guild" with which I spent the next few days - great guys.

There was a lot more to the seven days in Ptown but I think that the most outstanding was the fact that I had 6-7 days of vacation where I could mingle around with no plan or agenda and to do whatever comes up. The last couple of days was raining but I got to just hang, talk, watch some TV and went to the movies twice. I have to rave about the second movie I saw - it was the best independent film I ever saw - "Me and You and Everyone We Know." I absolutely adore this movie and it falls in my top 5. I couldn't believe that was an American film. Macaroni!

And Let the Madness Begin...

Today is the deadline. That's it! I did it!!! [brief applause please]

I heroically completed the 4th of July madness contest. I don’t know if I’ll be able to report from the action field of may vacation but I’m certainly planning on trying. I’m gonna try to be truthful to my writing passion and sneak on Dennis’ PC for a quick report. As far as the promised “AFTER” pictures the plan is to use the actual once from my vacation.

P.S.: If I don’t get a chance to write during my vacation please don’t forget about me and I’ll come back in a week.
